How to Transfer a
Domain
Since you
have decided to transfer an existing domain name to our service,
we need to inform the current registrar (ie. the
company it is registered with) that you wish to use it with our
service.
Step One
We need to find out what company you originally registered your
domain name through. To do this you will need to enter the full
domain name (eg. yourdomain.com) in the form below and click "Submit".
You must exclude the "www." part of your website
address but include the extension such as ".com"
otherwise it will not work.
The results
of your search will be opened in another browser window. They will
look something like this:
Domain Name: DOTCOMAVENUE.COM
Registrar: TUCOWS, INC.
Whois Server: whois.opensrs.net
Referral URL: http://www.opensrs.org
Name Server: NS.DOTCOMAVENUE.COM
Name Server: NS2.DOTCOMAVENUE.COM
Updated Date: 19-jul-2001 |
In this case
it shows us that the domain is registered with a company called
"TUCOWS, INC.". In order to modify this particular domain name you
would need to go to the "Referral URL" located at "http://www.opensrs.org".
It also tells us the nameservers that the domain currently points
to and the last time that this information was modified.
You should
use the data in the "Referral URL" to visit the website of the company
that your particular domain is registered with and on their site
you will be able to modify your domain to point to the following
nameservers:
Primary Nameserver
Hostname: NS.EXPRESSERVERS.COM
Primary Nameserver IP Address: 208.56.210.67
Secondary Nameserver Hostname: NS2.EXPRESSERVERS.COM
Secondary Nameserver IP Address: 208.56.139.130
Your particular
registrar may not ask you for the "Nameserver IP Addresses" but
only for the hostnames - this is fine. If you have any questions
or problems on how to modify your domain name with a particular
registrar then you need to contact that company direcly. We are
unable to modify it for you or to provide detailed assistance as
there are many hundreds of registrars and the procedure for each
is different. They will only accept modification requets from
you, the owner of the domain, not us - we can not modify your domain
name.
We have step-by-step
guides available for modifying your domain name with two popular
registrars, Register.com and Network Solutions.
